Greeting people is very important in any language.

There are many ways of greeting people in English.

When we greet people in English;

Hello                :  Everyone
Hi                     :  Informal
Good morning  :  Formal
Good day
Good afternoon
Good evening

So good to see you
I'm pleased to meet you
It's nice to see you


We can say 'Hello' to everyone or 'Hi' to family and friends, as 'Hi' is less formal.
If we mean polite (in formal situations), we can say good morning, good afternoon etc. (It depends on the time of day)
