Present continuous (I am doing)

A. The present continuous is:
     am/is/are + doing/sitting/standing/walking/running/drinking etc.
                                                                 > They are sitting.
                                                                    They are not standing.

    I       am       (not)     -ing                         I'm reading

  he                                                                Harry is washing his car
she       is          (not)     -ing                         She isn't eating  (or she's not eating)
   it                                                                The cat's playing with the ball

 we                                                               We're having lunch
you     are        (not)     -ing                         You're not listening to me  (or you aren't . . . .)
they                                                              The children are playing in the park

B.   am/is/are  +  ing   =   Something is happening now / at the time of speaking;
                                                                  I'm writing
                                                           She's wearing a watch
                                                           They're playing futsal
                                                   You're not listening to the music

   past--------------------------------------------- N O W ------------------------------------------------future

  • Please don't make a noise. I'm having a test.  (I'm having a test now)
  • Look at Eneng!  She's wearing her new ear rings.  (she's wearing them now)
  • It's not raining.  (the weather is nice at the moment)
  • Where are the kids?   They're doing their homework.
  • I'm not watching the television.  You can turn it off.
C.  Spelling
      - words of one syllable ending in the letter 'e' ,  the letter 'e' , is omitted. 
        e.g.   come > coming       write >  writing       dance > dancing
      - words of one syllable ending in a consonant precided by a vowel, the last consonant is doubled.
        e.g.  run > running     sit > sitting     swim > swimming.



> She's singing a love song.
